Alcohol Control Regulations in Thailand

Implementation Guideline on the Advertising Ban of Alcohol Control Act Section 32, Chapter 4

After the Alcohol Control Act was enacted on February 14, 2008, the Disease Control Department, Ministry of Public Health of Thailand published a guideline on the advertising ban according to the Alcohol Control Act, Section 32, Chapter 4. The purpose of this document is to educate the general public, manufacturers, distributors and retailers on the law by providing a list of unlawful advertising practices. This is to clarify the law, to help enforcing the Alcohol Control Act and ultimately to prevent underage drinking.

Alcohol Marketing Tools in Thailand was presented by Dr. Nitta Roonkaseam, a delegate from Stopdrink Network, Thailand, in the second EUCAM Alcohol Marketing Conference, November 23rd, 2009, Brussels, Belgium. The conference was hosted by the Center for Monitoring Alcohol Marketing (EUCAM).

Newly introduced alcohol marketing strategies: Thai experience

This manuscript analyses the marketing strategies, lately launched to Thailand through the classic Marketing Mixed theory, or known as the 4P principle (Product-Price-Place-Promotion). Where available, this article describes the impact of such strategies which led to high availability of cheap beverages, created the youth-friendly beverages and drinking patterns and brand loyalty, and shaped the social climate on alcohol consumption and alcohol operators including the normalization of alcohol consumption in Thai society.

Why alcohol control regulation is critically needed in Thailand?

Alcohol is a substance needed to be restricted and regulated by law. Alcohol consumption becomes one of the major social problems in Thailand. It causes an addiction and leads to harmful consequences.
