StopDrink Network is a nongovernmental organization (NGO) which was formed in 2003 and supported by Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth).
Our primary objective is to reduce alcohol consumption in Thailand by working with community groups and other NGOs who are sharing the same goal.
Vision
StopDrink Network commits to reduce the total number of alcohol consumption including underage drinking, and the number of incidents resulted from alcohol abuse. We are working to raise public awareness of harmful consequences from alcohol consumption, to create long-term social value for alcohol drinking prevention, and to advocate for public policies on alcohol control.
Mission
StopDrink Network’s mission is to become the coordinating center in Thailand where we connect and cooperate with other organizations to achieve the alcohol consumption reduction.
Strategies
StopDrink Network has executed the following strategies:
1. Advocating for alcohol related public policies and monitoring closely on the alcohol industry movement and their new marketing techniques.
2. Promoting alcohol-free celebrations during holidays, festival and cultural events.
3. Promoting and supporting anti-alcohol activities for specific targeted groups including youth, women and child, and labor union.
4. Campaigning for alcohol-free zones.
5. Developing and training partners on basic campaigning structure including how-to guidelines and providing other supports.
Working Principles
Along with the strategies, StopDrink Network implements the following working principles:
• Switching a drinker in our targeted groups to a non-drinker by promoting the concept of “non-drinker’s right.”
• Creating a sense of ownership for anti-alcohol campaigns to the public. This is to motivate public participations and to avoid the misperception that the alcohol issue is to be solved by ThaiHealth and StopDrink Network only.
• Giving a priority to alcohol industry allies such as restaurant, mass media, sports, and tourism industry groups by communicating alcohol related issues and working cooperatively in solving the problems.
• Altering the alcohol industry image that their products are non-ordinary goods. Regulations and restrictions must be applied.
• Fortifying the anti-alcohol campaigns by utilizing H.M. the King’s principle of “Sufficiency Economy” and the celebration of H.M. the King’s 80th Birthday.
• Introducing and working cooperatively on anti-alcohol campaigns with current ThaiHealth ’s partners.
• Collaborating with other organizations in evaluating possible financial support to community partners.
